This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to solve kinematic problems using the vector equations of motion.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • understand and recall the vector forms of the following kinematic equations:
    • 𝑟=𝑟+𝑣𝑡,
    • 𝑣=𝑢+𝑎𝑡,
    • 𝑟=𝑢𝑡+12𝑎𝑡,
  • perform calculations using the vector forms of the kinematic equations to find missing accelerations, velocities, displacements, and times in real-world situations.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • the kinematic equations for scalar quantities,
  • vector notation,
  • vector addition, subtraction, and scalar multiplication.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • using differentiation.
