Lesson Plan: Solving One-Step Equations Using Models
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to write and solve one-step equations where the unknown is a letter using models.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- understand the meaning of an equation,
- understand that both sides of an equation are equal or balanced,
- write a one-step equation that represents a mathematical statement,
- write a one-step equation that represents a real-life situation,
- use models to find an unknown in a one-step equation.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- writing algebraic expressions.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- two-step equations.
