Lesson Plan: 3D Shapes Mathematics • Kindergarten
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to identify and name common 3D shapes, in different colors, sizes, and orientations, and the shapes of their faces.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- name common 3D shapes,
- identify 3D shapes in different orientations, colors, and sizes,
- identify 2D shapes found in the faces of 3D shapes,
- create and compose 3D shapes using 2D faces.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- classifying a shape as 2D or 3D,
- naming 2D shapes,
- sorting and classifying shapes according to them being 2D or 3D.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- identifying 2D and 3D shapes from descriptions,
- naming the three dimensions in 3D shapes, length, width, and height,
- 3D shapes in everyday objects.
