Lesson Plan: Volumes of Triangular and Quadrilateral Pyramids Mathematics • 8th Grade
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to find volumes of triangular or quadrilateral pyramids and solve problems including real-life situations.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- recall the formula for finding the volume of triangular and quadrilateral pyramids,
- find the volumes of triangular and quadrilateral pyramids when given the dimensions of the base and the height of the pyramids,
- find the volumes of triangular and quadrilateral pyramids when given the slant height and another dimension of the pyramids,
- find one of the dimensions of the pyramid when given its volume and one of its other dimensions.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- finding the areas of triangles and quadrilaterals,
- the Pythagorean theorem.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- volumes of cones.
