Lesson Plan: Cartesian Products Mathematics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to perform a Cartesian product and use the operations applied on sets.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- return the elements of the Cartesian product of two sets,
- apply standard set operations such as union and intersection to Cartesian product questions,
- understand that Cartesian products are noncommutative and nonassociative,
- represent Cartesian products using arrow diagrams and Cartesian diagrams.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- standard set operations and notation such as union and intersection,
- as the number of elements in set .
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- Cartesian products of more than two sets,
- relations and functions between sets.
