Lesson Plan: How to Measure Length and Volume Science

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • describe the equipment used to measure the length and the volume of regular rectangular solid objects,
  • measure length and volume,
  • describe the units used to measure length and volume, including kilometers, meters, centimeters, and cubic centimeters,
  • calculate the volume of regular rectangular prisms,
  • convert between units of measurement of length and volume.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • using a ruler and a measuring tape to measure length,
  • regular- and irregular-shaped objects.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • calculating the volume of any other irregular-shaped objects,
  • any imperial measurements.
