Lesson Plan: How to Measure Length and Volume Science
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to define length and volume, name the tools used to measure length and volume, and calculate the volume of regular solid objects.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- describe the equipment used to measure the length and the volume of regular rectangular solid objects,
- measure length and volume,
- describe the units used to measure length and volume, including kilometers, meters, centimeters, and cubic centimeters,
- calculate the volume of regular rectangular prisms,
- convert between units of measurement of length and volume.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- using a ruler and a measuring tape to measure length,
- regular- and irregular-shaped objects.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- calculating the volume of any other irregular-shaped objects,
- any imperial measurements.
