Lesson Plan: Properties of 3D Shapes Mathematics • 1st Grade
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to sort or classify 3D shapes by identifying their defining and nondefining attributes.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- identify 3D shapes from a description of the number of faces, edges, and vertices,
- identify the defining and nondefining attributes of 3D shapes as attributes that a shape always, sometimes, or never has,
- classify and sort 3D shapes based on their attributes.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- identifying common 3D shapes,
- counting faces, edges, and vertices of 3D shapes.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- nets of 3D shapes,
- the volume or capacity of 3D shapes.
