Lesson Plan: Light-emitting Diodes Physics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to identify the action of LEDs in circuits.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- identify and draw the circuit symbol for an LED,
- understand that since an LED is a type of diode, it will only permit a current through it in one direction,
- identify the direction in which charge can flow through a diode,
- identify whether a diode in a circuit will be lit or not.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- diodes,
- simple series and parallel circuits,
- cells and batteries,
- resistors and bulbs.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- semiconductors,
- how LEDs are made,
- the alternating current,
- current rectification,
- logic circuits.
