Lesson Plan: The Future Perfect English

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to use the future perfect tense to talk about different types of transport.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • Use the future perfect tense (will/won’t + have + past participle) in the affirmative, negative and interrogative form.
  • Understand that the future perfect tense is used for actions that will or will not be completed before a specific time in the future.
  • Understand that the future perfect tense is used to talk about actions that will or will not be completed before another action in the future.
  • Use “by,” “by the time” and “before” with the future perfect tense to show that the action will happen before a specific time in the future.
  • Use “in + period of time” to show a period of time in which an action will be completed.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • The future simple tense.
  • Past participle.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • The future perfect passive.
