Lesson Plan: Traits and the Environment
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to explain the effect the environment has on some inherited traits and identify traits that have been acquired or learned.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- explain why the environment influences some inherited traits,
- give examples of inherited traits that are influenced by the environment,
- explain that traits can be either acquired (environmental) or learned,
- identify traits that have been acquired (environmental) or learned.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- identifying inherited traits,
- how the inheritance of different traits leads to variation.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- how genes and chromosomes work,
- any details of sexual reproduction.
