Lesson Plan: Design of the Ohmmeter Physics • Third Year of Secondary School
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to describe combining a galvanometer with fixed and variable resistors to design a DC ohmmeter.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- describe the appropriate connection of a galvanometer and fixed and variable resistors to produce an ohmmeter,
- explain the required resistance ratio of the fixed and variable resistors,
- explain the nonlinear variation of the arm deflection of an ohmmeter with linear change in measured resistance.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- galvanometers,
- Ohm’s law,
- series circuits.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- ammeters,
- voltmeters,
- calculations of magnetic fields.
