Lesson Plan: The Skeleton, Muscles, and Skin
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to identify and describe the function of the main parts of the skeletal system, the muscular system, and the skin.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- identify and describe the function of the skeletal system,
- define muscles and tendons and describe their functions,
- identify and describe cardiac, smooth, and skeletal muscle tissues,
- describe how the skeletal system and muscles work together to create movement,
- define skin as the largest organ of the human body,
- describe the functions of skin,
- label and describe the different parts of skin, including oil glands, sweat glands, hair follicles, dermis, and epidermis.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the main body systems,
- cells,
- basic body parts.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- specific types of bones,
- specific types of muscles,
- the physiology of how a muscle contracts.
