Lesson Plan: Finding the Areas of Rectangles and Triangles Physics

This lesson plan includes the objectives, Prerequisites and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to calculate the areas of rectangles and triangles and the volumes of rectangular prisms.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • calculate the areas of rectangles using the formula areawidthlength=×,
  • calculate the volumes of rectangular prisms using the formula volumewidthlengthheight=××,
  • calculate the areas of right triangles using the formula areawidthlength=(×)2,
  • calculate the volumes of right triangular prisms using the formula volumeheightwidthlength=×(×)2,
  • combine these formulas to find the areas and volumes of compound shapes.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • the definition of a right triangle.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • curved objects.
