Lesson Plan: Floods and Droughts

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • describe and compare floods and droughts,
  • describe some effects of floods and droughts on humans, plants, animals, and the environment,
  • identify water issues that impact Egypt and global communities,
  • explain which climate zones and habitats are most likely to experience water issues.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • the water cycle,
  • the idea that different areas of the world have different climates,
  • different types of habitats,
  • precipitation,
  • how to read a map,
  • climate zones (limited to temperate, tropical, and polar).

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • measures used to prevent floods or droughts,
  • measures taken to protect living things and the environment from floods or droughts.
