Lesson Plan: Solving Linear Equations Using Function Graphs
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to relate points on a linear graph to equations and so solve those equations.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- understand the relationship between solutions to linear equations and the graphs of the corresponding functions,
- solve by examining where the graph of the linear function crosses the ,
- solve by rearranging to get or by examining where the graph of the linear function crosses .
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- linear equations,
- linear functions,
- graphs of linear functions,
- finding or given the other variable in the linear equation .
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- identifying the intercepts of the graph of using its equation,
- calculating the slope or rate of change.
