Lesson Plan: Contact Forces

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to investigate, draw conclusions, and predict how forces can change the motion of an object.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • describe experiments to investigate how contact forces can be used to start, stop, and change the direction or speed of motion,
  • describe an object’s position,
  • identify and describe the effects of a force,
  • identify correct conclusions based on observations from an investigation,
  • predict motion in different scenarios.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • the definition of force,
  • the definition of motion,
  • cause and effect relationships (force and motion),
  • categorizing forces as push or pull.

Exclusions

Students will not cover
