Lesson Plan: Modelling the Water Cycle

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to model the water cycle using the solar still model.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • identify how precipitation, evaporation, and condensation are demonstrated in the solar still model,
  • identify the state of matter at different steps in the solar still model,
  • describe what happens to salt in the solar still model,
  • link and compare the observations of the solar still model to different parts of the water cycle,
  • describe real-life examples of condensation and evaporation.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • the three states of matter,
  • the importance of water for living things,
  • the stages of the water cycle.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • climate and weather,
  • how living things use water.
