Lesson Plan: Types of Nonrandom Sampling Mathematics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to apply non-random sampling methods such as quota sampling and opportunity sampling.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- understand the benefits and also the limitations of non-random sampling methods,
- describe how quota sampling and opportunity sampling methods can be applied in a given context,
- identify the type of non-random sampling method used when given a context,
- understand advantages and disadvantages of non-random sampling methods,
- determine whether non-random sampling would likely lead to a representative sample,
- suggest improvements on non-random sampling methods.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- simple, systematic, and stratified random sampling methods,
- sampling units and sampling frame,
- representative sample,
- importance of the sample size.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- random sampling methods,
- types of sampling biases.
