Objectives

Students will be able to

  • draw an area model to represent the product of a two-digit number by a one-digit number,
  • find missing numbers in area models,
  • calculate products of two-digit numbers with one-digit numbers,
  • understand that we can break apart the number in different ways and get the same solution,
  • pick efficient ways to break apart the number.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • the multiplication tables up to 10×10,
  • partitioning two-digit numbers in different ways.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • column multiplication.
