Lesson Plan: Applications of Friction
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to describe some advantages and disadvantages of friction.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- identify and describe the effects of friction,
- explain ways in which friction is useful,
- explain ways in which friction is not useful.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the idea that friction is a force that acts between surfaces,
- the fact that friction produces heat,
- using force diagrams to represent the directions of forces,
- push and pull forces,
- the definition of the term motion,
- the definition of the term mass,
- the definition of the term speed.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- comparisons between sliding and rolling friction,
- air and water resistance.
