Lesson Plan: Mechanical Power Physics

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to calculate the power required for a force to do an amount of work on an object in an amount of time.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • use the formula work done = power×time in all combinations.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • the formula work done = force×distance moved in direction of force,
  • momentum,
  • Newton’s laws of motion.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • using calculus to determine work done or power.
