Lesson Plan: Absorption of Water and Osmosis Science

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to identify the effect of osmosis and selective permeability on the absorption of water and minerals and explore the parts of the root hair that make it suitable for this process.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • investigate the absorption of water and minerals through the plant,
  • relate different structures of root hair to the absorption process,
  • identify the definition and importance of osmosis and semipermeability.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • the parts of a plant cell, particularly the vacuole,
  • the basic parts of a plant, such as the roots, stem, and leaves,
  • the structure of root hair,
  • photosynthesis.
