Lesson Plan: The Heart and the Blood Vessels
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to define the four main parts of the heart and describe the structure and function of blood vessels.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- define and identify the four main parts of the heart,
- describe in detail arteries, veins, and capillaries,
- describe the function of each type of blood vessel.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the function of the circulatory system,
- the function of the blood,
- the components of the blood,
- the function of the heart,
- the excretory organs.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- the role of the heart in relation to the respiratory system,
- the septum and the specific names of the heart valves,
- the circulation and the flow of blood through the heart and body.
