Lesson Plan: Sample Space and Outcomes Mathematics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to find the sample space of an activity or experiment and describe and count the possible outcomes.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- list all of the possible outcomes in the sample space of an activity or experiment,
- count all of the possible outcomes in the sample space of an activity or experiment,
- model all of the possible outcomes in the sample space of an activity or experiment using a Venn diagram,
- determine which of the possible outcomes in the sample space of an activity or experiment define an event.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the faces on a standard die,
- set notation.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- finding the probability of events.
