This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to graph and interpret quadratic functions of the form 𝑦 = 𝑘𝑥² + 𝑐.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • complete a table of values for a quadratic function of the form 𝑦=𝑘𝑥+𝑐,
  • sketch a graph of a quadratic function of the form 𝑦=𝑘𝑥+𝑐 using a table of values given an interval over which to graph,
  • identify the equation of a quadratic function of the form 𝑦=𝑘𝑥+𝑐 given its graph,
  • identify what happens to our graph when we change the values of the constants in our function.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • function notation,
  • sketching a graph from a table of values,
  • identifying and evaluating polynomial functions,
  • graphing linear functions.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • sketching graphs of quadratic functions of the form 𝑓(𝑥)=𝑎𝑥+𝑏𝑥+𝑐.
