Lesson Plan: The Importance and Abundance of Carbon Dioxide
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to identify and describe the sources and uses of carbon dioxide and its significance in the atmosphere.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- identify the proportion of carbon dioxide gas in Earth’s atmosphere,
- identify and describe the uses of carbon dioxide,
- describe how human activities have led to increased carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere,
- identify and describe the harmful effects of carbon dioxide.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- matter,
- states of matter,
- elements, atoms, and molecules,
- photosynthesis,
- respiration.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- investigating the properties of carbon dioxide,
- the preparation of carbon dioxide gas,
- chemical equations.
