Lesson Plan: Muscles and Movements
This lesson plan includes the objectives and prerequisites of the lesson teaching students how to state examples of types and groups of muscles, measure muscle strength, and describe how antagonistic pairs work together.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- state that a muscle is a type of tissue that causes movement by contracting,
- identify major muscles and types of muscles within the human body, including the biceps, triceps, and cardiac muscle,
- recall that muscles are attached to bones at joints by tendons,
- describe how antagonist muscle pairs work together using the triceps and biceps as examples,
- describe simple experiments to measure muscle strength, measured in newtons,
- calculate the force applied by a muscle.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the basic structure of the skeleton and joints.
