Lesson Plan: Types of Sexual Reproduction Biology • Third Year of Secondary School
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to describe different strategies of sexual reproduction and give examples of organisms that use both sexual and asexual reproduction in their life cycle.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- explain what occurs during sexual reproduction,
- compare and contrast sexual and asexual reproduction,
- recognize the importance of meiosis in sexual reproduction,
- describe conjugation and reproduction by gametes as a method of sexual reproduction,
- use Plasmodium and ferns as examples of organisms that show alternation of generations.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- meiosis (and contrast it with mitosis),
- asexual reproduction (with examples),
- sexual reproduction involving 2 parents,
- fertilization.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- the cellular processes of meiosis.
