Lesson Plan: Related Time Rates Mathematics
This lesson plan includes the objectives and prerequisites of the lesson teaching students how to use derivatives to find the relation between the rates of two or more quantities in related rates problems.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- identify the given rate and the rate that we are trying to find in a related rates problem,
- identify the relation between two variables that change per unit of time,
- use the chain rule to link the related rates in a related rates problem,
- find a missing rate to solve a related rate problem at a given instance.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- differentiating polynomial, trigonometric, radical, rational, and exponential functions,
- the product, chain, and quotient rule,
- implicit differentiation.
