Lesson Plan: Volumes of Oblique Prisms Mathematics

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to find the volumes of oblique prisms that have bases in the shape of a rectangle, a square, a parallelogram, or a triangle.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • recall the formula for finding the volume of oblique prisms,
  • find the area of oblique prisms,
  • solve real-world problems by finding the volume of oblique prisms.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • finding the volume of regular prisms,
  • finding areas of 2D shapes:
    • squares,
    • rectangles,
    • parallelograms,
    • triangles,
    • trapezoids,
    • kites.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • finding volumes of composite 3D shapes.
