Lesson Plan: Parallel and Perpendicular Lines Mathematics • 3rd Grade
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to classify pairs of lines as parallel or perpendicular.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- define parallel lines as lines that are always the same distance apart and never cross,
- define perpendicular lines as lines that are at right angles to each other,
- identify whether a pair of lines is parallel or perpendicular,
- understand that we can denote parallel lines by a pair of arrows,
- understand that we can denote perpendicular lines by drawing the right angle between them.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- identifying right angles.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- representing lines with mathematical symbols,
- using mathematical notation for parallel or perpendicular .
