This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to multiply one-digit numbers by multiples of 10, 100, and 1,000 using decomposition and the associative property.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- use decomposing and the associative property to multiply one-digit numbers by multiples of 10, 100, and 1,000,
- draw parentheses around numbers that would be multiplied first,
- solve problems involving multiplying one-digit numbers by multiples of 10, 100, and 1,000.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- multiplying one-digit numbers by one-digit numbers,
- using place value to multiply by 10, 100, and 1,000,
- place values of 4-digit numbers,
- recognizing and using the associative property.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- multiplying decimals.
