Lesson Plan: Microscopes Science
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to identify the parts of a microscope, calculate total magnification, and describe how a specimen can be prepared and viewed using a microscope.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- state that cells can been seen with a microscope,
- label the main parts of a microscope,
- describe how a specimen can be prepared and viewed under a microscope,
- calculate the total magnification of a microscope.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the concept that hand lenses can magnify objects so that they can be seen in more detail,
- the fact that cells are too small to be seen with the naked eye.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- magnification calculations of drawings relative to actual size,
- the measurement of objects using a microscope.
