This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to determine the accelerations of objects that change the speed at which they move.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • recall that acceleration is a quantity that expresses a change in speed per second,
  • use 𝑎=Δ𝑣Δ𝑡=𝑣𝑣Δ𝑡,
  • recall that acceleration can be measured in units of m/s2,
  • recognize that uniform acceleration means that an object’s speed changes by the same amount in equal time intervals.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • calculating average speed.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • uniform circular motion,
  • velocity,
  • forces,
  • graphs.
