Lesson Plan: Graphing Linear Relationships

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to graph linear relationships.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • graph a linear relationship by first constructing a table of values,
  • understand how the nature of a linear relationship affects the slope of the graph,
  • describe what is happening in each part of a piecewise linear graph relating to a real-life situation,
  • draw a linear graph describing a real-life situation.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • relations,
  • dependent and independent variables,
  • input–output tables.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • linear functions,
  • equations of straight lines,
  • calculating slopes,
  • intercepts.
