Lesson Plan: Estimating Capacity: Customary Units
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to estimate the capacity of real-life objects by choosing the most appropriate customary unit of capacity.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- choose whether the cup, pint, quart, or gallon is the most appropriate unit to measure the capacity of an object,
- estimate the capacity of objects,
- determine which object is most likely to have a given capacity.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- recognizing cups, pints, quarts, and gallons as customary units of capacity.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- measurements other than whole numbers.
