Lesson Plan: Making and Hearing Sound
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to describe how sounds are made and how we hear them.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- describe how sounds are made by things vibrating,
- identify some sources of sound,
- describe how sound travels through air or other materials,
- explain how we hear sounds when they enter our ear.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the five senses,
- the main parts of the body, including the head, ears, eyes, nose, and mouth,
- states of matter.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- the term wave,
- volume or pitch,
- names and functions of the parts of the ear other than the eardrum.
