Objectives

Students will be able to

  • use the counting principle (the addition rule) to find the number of possible outcomes in a given situation,
  • combine the multiplication rule and the addition rule when solving problems.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • combinations,
  • the counting principle (the multiplication rule),
  • permutations.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • counting outcomes with the multiplication rule only,
  • counting outcomes of simple events.
