Lesson Plan: Counting Principles: Addition Rule Mathematics • Third Year of Secondary School
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to find the number of all possible outcomes of 2 or more events together using the addition counting principle.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- use the counting principle (the addition rule) to find the number of possible outcomes in a given situation,
- combine the multiplication rule and the addition rule when solving problems.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- combinations,
- the counting principle (the multiplication rule),
- permutations.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- counting outcomes with the multiplication rule only,
- counting outcomes of simple events.
