Lesson Plan: Distributive Property Applications
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to apply the distributive property to evaluate expressions and solve problems involving real-life situations.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- understand how the distributive property applies to algebraic expressions and apply the distributive property to rewrite an algebraic expression,
- apply the distributive property to find unknown values in an identity,
- apply the distributive property to solve problems involving real-life situations,
- apply the distributive property to find equivalent expressions in real-life situations.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the order of operations,
- the distributive property,
- evaluating polynomials.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- factoring,
- solving an equation,
- multiplying two expressions with variables.
