Lesson Plan: Reading Picture Graphs Mathematics • 1st Grade
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to read and make picture graphs, where each picture represents a count of one, to find how many items are in a category and which category has the most or least items.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- answer questions about data in a picture graph,
- compare categories in a picture graph,
- complete a picture graph.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- using graphs to sort objects,
- comparing groups of objects by counting up to 10.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- picture graphs with more than 10 objects,
- symbols or pictures that represent more than one object,
- adding or finding the difference between categories.
