Lesson Plan: Theoretical Probability Mathematics • 7th Grade

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • define theoretical probability,
  • use the language of probability to describe the chances of events based on facts and reasoning,
  • calculate the probability of an event based on facts and reasoning,
  • compare and combine simple theoretical probabilities.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • basic probability language, such as the terms certain, likely, and impossible,
  • how to use fractions to describe probabilities.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • experimental probabilities,
  • compound probabilities,
  • writing probabilities as decimals.
