Lesson Plan: Converting Fractions to Decimals
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to convert fractions to decimals by first rewriting the fraction to have a denominator of 10, 100, or 1,000.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- convert a fraction to a decimal by modeling equivalent fractions,
- convert a fraction to a decimal by writing equivalent fractions,
- convert a fraction to a decimal using division.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- converting fractions with a denominator of 10 or 100 to decimals,
- converting decimals with two decimal places to fractions,
- converting , , or to a decimal by first rewriting the fraction to have a denominator of 10 or 100.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- recurring decimals or decimals with more than three decimal places,
- dividing by numbers with more than one digit.
