Lesson Plan: Column Addition of Three-Digit Numbers: No Regrouping Mathematics • 2nd Grade
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to add two three-digit numbers when we do not have to regroup and record the calculation in columns.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- use place value models to add two numbers in columns,
- add a two-digit and three-digit number vertically using the column addition method,
- add two three-digit numbers vertically using the column addition method.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- adding two-digit numbers using the column method,
- using place value tables and counters to represent three-digit numbers,
- decomposing two- and three-digit numbers.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- sums with more than three digits,
- regrouping.
