Lesson Plan: Solving Problems with Nonstandard Units
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to solve problems by measuring length, weight, or capacity with nonstandard units, using addition and subtraction within 20.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- say how many units of one nonstandard unit equal one unit of another nonstandard unit,
- use nonstandard units to find the difference in measure between two objects,
- find the total weight or length of objects using nonstandard units.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- addition and subtraction within 20.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- standard units of measure.
