Lesson Plan: Dynamic Equilibrium Chemistry • Third Year of Secondary School
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to define a dynamic equilibrium and examine how one can be established.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- describe the formation of a dynamic equilibrium,
- explain the difference between an open and a closed system,
- explain how a dynamic equilibrium develops over time from starting reactants and no products,
- analyze rate versus time and concentration versus time graphs to identify when equilibria are established,
- link the concepts of rate of reaction and catalysis to dynamic equilibria.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- rates of reaction,
- catalysis,
- reversible and irreversible reactions.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- quantitative measurement or calculations of equilibrium constants.
