Lesson Plan: Limestone Chemistry
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to describe the uses of limestone and the related reactions using the lime cycle.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- describe the manufacture of lime and slaked lime from calcium carbonate,
- list uses of limestone, lime, and slaked lime,
- evaluate the environmental concerns related to large-scale quarrying.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- simple chemical changes,
- using lime water to test for carbon dioxide.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- how limestone is formed in Earth.
