Lesson Plan: Converting Lengths: Centimeters and Millimeters Mathematics

Objectives
Students will be able to
- measure lengths in centimeters and millimeters,
- use the fact that 1 centimeter = 10 millimeters to convert between whole numbers of centimeters and millimeters,
- use models to partition measurements to convert them,
- compare lengths in centimeters, millimeters, and mixed measures.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- place value of three-digit numbers,
- comparing three-digit numbers,
- the fact that 10 millimeters is equal to 1 centimeter.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- decimal notation of measures,
- fractional notation of measures.
