Lesson Plan: Catalysts Chemistry • Third Year of Secondary School
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to explain the effects of catalysts on the rate of reaction.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- explain how the presence of a catalyst affects the rate of chemical reactions,
- link changes in reaction profile diagrams and activation energy to catalytic action and alternate reaction pathways,
- list uses and benefits of catalysts in real-life situations.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- reaction profile diagrams for exothermic and endothermic reactions,
- using the collision theory to explain changes in rates of reaction.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- Boltzmann distribution,
- classification of homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts.
