Lesson Plan: Comparing Lengths in Centimeters or Meters

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to compare the lengths of two objects measured in either centimeters or meters.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • compare two lengths using words,
  • compare two lengths using symbols,
  • find the difference between two lengths,
  • write sentences describing how much longer or shorter one measurement is than another,
  • order objects by length.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • adding lengths up to 100 cm,
  • subtracting lengths within 100 cm.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • values greater than 100,
  • conversion of units.
