Lesson Plan: Choosing Inches, Feet, or Yards
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to choose whether to measure an object in inches, feet, or yards and determine which tool can be used to find the measurement.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- determine whether the most appropriate unit of measurement for an object is inches, feet, or yards,
- identify which tool can be used to measure the object,
- estimate the length or height of objects by choosing appropriate units of measurement.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- measuring the length and height of objects in inches, feet, and yards by starting at 0 on a ruler or measuring tape,
- measuring to the nearest inch, foot, or yard,
- estimating the length and height of objects in inches, feet, and yards.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- converting units of measurement,
- whole numbers greater than 100.
